150 years ago was published the most known piece of the Hungarian literature, The Tragedy of Man by Imre Madách
The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (Central Bank of Hungary) issued a silver collector coin to celebrate this anniversary. The designer of the coin is Enikő Szöllőssy. The proof quality is available right now at our webshop. It is a really special issue, as the figures of Adam and Eve, and the title of the Tragedy are extra overpolished on the relief of the reverse.

New Issue: First day mint coin set with the new circulation coins of Hungary 2012

From 2012, instead of Magyar Köztársaság (Republic of Hungary) the legal tender coins shall bear the name of our country: MAGYARORSZÁG.
The whole 2012 year series of all denomations will be available only in the format of official mint sets. This set is the first version, including first day mint uncirculated quality coins. Other minted qualities, like Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof, will be issued later during the year.

ADVANCE-ORDERING FOR 2012 CLOSED

The advance ordering for 2012 new issues came to its end. For those who have missed this possibility, we suggest to visit our webshop when new issues appear. New issues will be available there for sale. The first 2012 dated product will be offered from 6th January. It is an official legal tender mint set including the first day minted new forint coins of each denomation. Please check it on Friday, 6th January.

Pre-ordering opportunity available for the 2012 new issues

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (Central Bank of Hungary) published its 2012 collector coin issuing programme.
Based on this, the Hungarian Mint offers pre-ordering opportunity for the new items, including coin sets and collector coins. Pre-ordering rules are the same as last year. You can reach the pre-ordering formular at our website or you can ask for it by e-mail sent to coins@hu.inter.net.
The pre-ordering system is open till 3th January 2012.

Legal tender coins with the inscription Magyarország (Hungary)

According to the new Basic Law of Hungary, the forint coins will bear the inscription Magyarország (Hungary) instead of Hungarian Republic from the 1st January 2012. All denominations are coming soon in a format of a mint set. Please visit our website at 6th January. The first day mint sets will be available in our webshop.

200th Anniversary of Birth of Erkel Ferenc

The silver and the gold 5000 forint collector coins devoted to the 200th anniversary of Ferenc Erkel appeared on 6th November, 2010.

The Ballpoint pen, patented by Bíró László József (1899-1985)

At first, a ball bearing was used as the tip of a large pen, and this solution
was presented at the Budapest International Fair in 1931. Later, he experimented with
the same method on a smaller scale, designing a pen for writing.
Biro finished his experiments to develop a useable ballpoint pen in Argentina, modifying
an ink for detecting cracks for use in his ballpoint pen.
His special ballpoint pen was patented in Argentina on 10 June 1943.

In honour of the inventor, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is issuing a base metal collector coin.

30th European Championships in Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Open Water
Budapest-Balatonfüred, August 4-15, 2010

The European Swimming Championships for the classic, 50-metre “long course” pool is generally organised every two years by the European Swimming Federation (Ligue Européenne de Natation, LEN), which functions as the governing body for 50 European national swimming federations. LEN was founded in 1926 in Budapest and its administrative headquarters are located in Rome. Hungary is represented in LEN by the Hungarian Swimming Federation. Along with swimming, the Federation is also responsible for the supervision of water polo, diving, synchronised swimming and long distance or open water swimming. Until 1999, competitions in all of these sports were held within the framework of the European Swimming Championships, while since then a separate European Championship has been organised for water polo.

In honour of the European Swimming Championships in Hungary and the outstanding performance of Hungarian swimmers, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is issuing a silver collector coin.
