According to the legal statement, investment gold has to weight more than 1 gram in a shape of bar, plate or sheet with a fineness of at least 995 thousandths. The most known and most popular, available for everyone gold bars usually weight of 2-5-10-20-50 grams, but larger sizes – like the London good delivery bars of 400 troy ounces (about 12.4 kg) - exist, as well. Investment gold products trade quite close to the world price of gold fixed by metal exchanges, with a relative low premium above.
Investment gold comes in two main forms: in bullion bars and bullion coins. Bullion coins must be of at least 900 thousandths fineness, issued after 1800 as legal tenders of the issuing country regardless their legal tender status has been changed or not since their appearance, and their price could not be higher than by 180% over the actual value of their gold content. Unlike numismatic gold coins, bullion coins usually have no artistic component in their value, and are struck in a quantity never limited. The face value of the bullion coins is usually significantly lower than their gold value.
Gold coins, bullion coins or gold bars are the best longterm tools for safe investments.
