"LANCEA REGIS" - The first Hungarian coin
This fine silver piece is the official restrike of the first silver denars struck under the reign of King St. Stephen, first king of Hungary. He launched the first coins right after his coronation. 40 pieces of the original silver denars were found in 1968 in Nagyharsány (South Hungary, near Pécs). One piece of them was borrowed by the Hungarian National Museum to the Mint as a specimen to the production of the restrike version. We struck our official mintmark BP. on the coin to prove its authenticity. The mintmark has been placed on the side showing a hand holding a lace, within the legend "LANCEA REGIS" (the lance of the king). The other side of the coin depicts a church, inscripted by "REGIA CIVITAS" (royal city).
The restrike is minted in the same diameter and weight as the original one, but of fine silver, with patinating.
The rim of the restrike is smooth and round, due to the modern minting technology, while the original coins have an irregular rim and they were struck of a fineness of approx. Ag .900.
The price includes both coin and box, there is no need to order the coin box separately.
