The forint currency is valid from 1 August, 1946. Since that time, there were many changes in the composition of materials, sizes and designs, old face values disappeared, new ones have been released. The lowest face value of our small change was 2 fillér, the highest one until now the 200 forint. Between 1946 and 1999 five filler values (1,2,5,10,20 and 50 filler) were in circulation. Since 1993 eight denominations – 1,2,5,10,20,50,100,200 – of forint coins had been valid as legal tender of Hungary. With some excepts (silver 5 forint of1946-47 and 200 forint coins between 1992-1998), the small change is struck of various types of brasses of base metals. In 1996, the original copper-nickel 100 forint was replaced by a ferrous bicolor coin. The halfsilver 200 forint coins were recalled in 1998, while the 1 and 2 forint denominations in 2008. However, the withdrawn denominations remained and are used as counting units. According to the new Constitution (Basic Law) of Hungary, from 1st January, 2012 the legend of the forint coins Magyar Köztársaság is replaced by the legend Magyarország. Valid coins with old legend remain legal tenders.
In this product line, only withdrawn forint coins can be found. The withdrawn coins are loose, unpacked. The circulating coins are available only in coin sets and other packagings.
