The Magyar Nemzeti Bank /National Bank of Hungary/ has had the exclusive right to issue banknotes since it was founded in 1924. Thus, since that time the Hungarian banknotes have borne the legend "MAGYAR NEMZETI BANK".
At the time of issuing the first forint coins and notes on 1st August 1946, 10 and 100 forint notes were printed on imported watermarked paper. Later five different types of banknotes have been issued in 20-50-500-1000-5000 forint denominations. Portraits of outstanding figures from Hungarian history and culture appeared on later banknotes. Hungarian banknotes have been designed and prepared for printing by Pénzjegynyomda Rt. (Hungarian Banknote Printing House Ltd.) and printed on special banknote paper produced by the Diósgyőr Paper Mill in Hungary.
The last notes of the first forint banknote-series were withdrawn from circulation in 1999.
The available withdrawn banknotes are in bankfresh condition. In our stock not all denominations and varieties of coat of arms are available, and the quantities are very limited.
