Ödön Lechner was the father of Hungarian art nouveau architecture and was known abroad as the “Hungarian Gaudi”.The Magyar Nemzeti Bank honours this great Hungarian architect by issuing a collector coin marking the 100th anniversary of his death. The coin was designed by the sculptor Mihály Fritz and features a drawing of the antechamber of the Geological Institute on the front. The back has a half-figure portrait of Lechner seated in an armchair, with the façade of the Museum of Applied Arts visible in the background. A 10,000-forint silver version and a 2,000-forint copper alloy version of this unusual, rectangular coin are being issued. The coins are packed into round capsules.
